Lovely,,, Thankyou ❤️
Finely toned bells.
We have a church where we live in Hyde called St George’s they are also a Taylor 8 and they sound exactly like the ones here at Gravesend but the St George’s in Hyde Taylor 8 were cast in 1920.
This is definitely what I need at 4am
Nicely done! Alex told the other day, about how the tenor's clapper had seized or something, during a quarter and just stopped striking.
All sorted now 😊
Nice bells….shame about the absolute monstrosity of a cathedral mind you!
They sound beautiful I would love to give these a try someday :)
These really are an amazing sounding 10. There is a warmth about them that is hard to explain.
There is definitely something rather special about them. I absolutely adore them...as you can probably tell!
@maidstone10 yes Graham you are big fan and with good reason, they also sound beautiful outside. I alway like 10s over 8s and even 12s they sound so bright and rounded, it is almost like the perfect balance. Having said that I do like bells that are tonally good but also that all bells in the peal are of the same tonal quality Im not a great lover of old bangers like Pimlico. Whilst I love Whitechapel bells because of my old man even he knew Taylor's make the best tenors. I rang at Washington National Cathedral in 2019, a really nice peal but the tenor doesn't have the warmth and breath of Miadstone.
Wow what a find, thats particularly special that you found something like this
Plain hunt 11.
Really lovely bells, a masterpiece of Taylors, they sound lovely outside too.
Didn't know Blackburn was in Sussex!
Not rung here - but going off of video they seem far better as an 8 or 10 - both acoustically and in terms of ease?
John Taylor & Co
Very nice
Light
Nice Taylor 10, I think Maidstone sound better outside , but then again Bells are to towers like guitar strings to the guitar and some guitar bodies will make the same strings sound different.
They sound like the front 12 of St Martins Birmingham.
I've never seen a sally at the tail-end like that before. Presumably it's not temporary as it's on every one?
They are called Yorkshire ends and were used in parts of Yorkshire , I only ever seen them once in Dewsbury and that was in 1967.
@@Steven_Rowe Oh right I see. That's really interesting, thanks for sharing this 👍🏼
Accy Accy Accy! I feel 24 sallies is too many...
Atheist nothing wrong will happen to me there once I got the tail-end through my neck and almost got pulled up but for some reason I was strong my neck was strong and pulled it back down and yorkshire tailends they only have a Sally on then
I think they’re in Db but still a very nice ring
You are right
@@maidstone10 better that the chime of 8
They have a very sweet tone to them. I like them.
Glorious bells!
hohoho
Taylors
Skipton are gorgeous!!!!!!! So are Whalley & Clitheroe up Lancashire.
christian whalley are taylors ciltheroe are gillett and johnson
Lovely bells.
Hi
32cwt tenor clapper being flipped at All Saints Maidstone.
Hello Graham, why did the tenor get a new clapper, I thought it already had a wooden shafted clapper. Also, with the new clapper, does the tenor go up right, or do you still need to flip the clapper
Very early wooden clapper and had a fantastic offer to replace it with a counterbalanced one with an egg shaped ball. The bell goes up right without even trying!
@@maidstone10 the counterbalance would ensure that. Always like counterbalanced clappers like on Great Paul I have a video of a great Paul I shot in August 2000. I first saw it in 1963 it was rung manually and it had a heart shaped clapper.
Absolutely lovely and so nostalgic for me living in Aus for 52 years. Dad was a whitechapel bell hanger till 1972 and apart from ringing tours i used to go with dad during school holidays and help him Apart from ringing bells up for dad i was the one who had to go down to the trucj to get all manner of stuff in luding clappers etc. I w9uld also explore the church and surrounds, the smell of cool stone and timber, the smell of grass and the bird song, i so wanted to live in places like this but alas had to return home to north London , with traffic street lamps and anti social behaviour. I remember going down to Devon and it was so rural and the only crimes seem to be somebody had pinched some turnips
I don't know what it is about this church but every time I went it just feels quintessentially Sussex. Thanks for the video Graham
I think it's one of my favourites
Im not much into old style bells perhaps the exception is St Pauls which epitomises to me the sound of London. Bath are certainly no Maidstone , i wonder how they would sound if retuned
It was making it quite hard to get it up right even if two people were pulling
Up right
Sorry to steal your thunder but it's not up at all, it's just being chimed
Very nicely struck and a good rhythm too 😊
Why did it have a new clapper. The old one had a wooden shaft.
Because the old one didn't go up right. This one now does and is wooden shafted.
Also the former one was a very early design. It will make a good spare
@@maidstone10 maidstone are a cracking peal, they have a very mellow and warm sound which I love
@@maidstone10 it has better sound
anticlockwise
Such punch.
I often play the touch of Stedman Caters with which your ringers won the Essex Trophy in 2014 - it was superb striking.
That must be double clappering , I can't see how it can hot both sides. Think about it, when you raise a bell the clapper on.y strikes one side of the bell for a while. I love the tenor bell.
The clapper was indeed striking both sides of the bell. How can it be striking the same side twice as it falls away?
Leigh on Mendip pre retune.. it's amazing how much they have improved.
Guess who commented in your video and one of my videos? Me!
Same
Sounds like the bells at Doncaster
